What won me over with this painting at first was the treatment of the water in the foreground. It felt cool and reflective and beautifully matched with the afternoon lit sky. There was such a textural contrast between the water and the grasses as well. As the form of the water in the foreground swerves to the right and then to the left, the sky booms out with the fading sun rays encompassing the breadth of the sky, reaching the opposite way to the right. All the lines lead to the sunken sun --- a well-executed focal point.
